Navigation Research Assistant

To create your own student account go to this link, SAS curricular Pathways’ Navigator registration page. Use the code zgcy53go in the sign-up code field when you create your account. This will associate your account with Concordia, and also allow you to save your work into your own folder. If you are a teacher or student from another school, then you can create an account for your school, too.

The four links below take you to SAS Curriculum Pathways‘ outstanding Writing Navigator series. Available for free, the SAS Writing Navigator is a suite of tools that provides guidance and support throughout the writing process: planning, drafting, revising, and publishing.

Available in the App Store and Google Chrome Store.

 

01 PlannerWriting Planner: Work through the process of generating ideas and organizing them into a plan for writing. You’ll determine your purpose and audience; brainstorm ideas, facts, or opinions; support your ideas with quotations and information from web sites, books, or other sources; group and sequence your ideas; and review your writing plan. 02 DrafterWriting Drafter: Transform your writing plan into the first draft of an essay by developing coherent sentences and paragraphs from the organized ideas in your plan. 03 ReviserWriting Reviser: Revise your writing with the help of this tool. It allows you to focus on your purpose and audience, essay structure, and use of written language (sentence economy, variety, power, and clarity). You’ll learn to ask questions experienced writers ask automatically. 04 PublisherWriting Publisher: Put the finishing touches on your writing with this tool. It helps you proofread to correct errors in punctuation, capitalization, omitted and repeated words, and spelling. Writing Navigator

In all four products that make up the Writing Navigator, users can save their work in one of two ways.

First, you can save to your Downloads Folder on your computer. This html file can be opened in any Internet browser for viewing and can also be used by the product to load your saved work.

To Save

  1. Click Finish (last menu item on the left).
  2. Click Save.
  3. Select the radio button labeled ‘Downloads Folder (on my computer).
  4. Enter the student’s first name (the other fields are optional).
  5. Click Save.
  6. The file download should begin shortly. Users may be prompted with download options depending on which browser they are using.

To Load (via the home page):

  1. Launch the product.
  2. Click ‘load essay’ or ‘load saved work’ on the home screen.
  3. Select the radio button labeled ‘Local Folder (on my computer).’
  4. Click Open
  5. Depending on your operating system, navigate to the location of the file and select it.

To Load (via the html file):

  1. Open the locally downloaded html file in an Internet browser.
  2. Click the blue link at the top labeled ‘Go back to …’
  3. The product should launch with the user’s saved work already loaded.

Second, they can save to their Writing Navigator Portfolio. These files are stored in our database and can be retrieved by the user at a later time. This option requires users to have an individual student or teacher account. This feature is not available to generic school-wide accounts.

To Save:

  1. Click Finish (last menu item on the left).
  2. Select the radio button labeled ‘Writing Navigator Portfolio.’
  3. Enter a name in the ‘Document Name’ field. (If the name matches an existing document, the user will be prompted to overwrite the document or to choose another name.)
  4. Click Save.
  5. The user will receive confirmation that the file was saved successfully.

To Load:

  1. Launch the product.
  2. Click ‘load essay’ or ‘load saved work’ on the home screen.
  3. Select the radio button labeled ‘Writing Navigator Portfolio.’
  4. Select a file from the list of previously saved files.
  5. Click Open.
  6. The product will open with the user’s saved work.
